I was recently honored by the Mono Lake Committee to be this years keynote speaker for their annual Andrea Lawrence Award Dinner. Not only was it a pleasure to meet many of Andrea’s family and friends throughout the evening, but to stand and speak at her award dinner is something that was truly special to me and an honor I will never forget. It’s been 48 hours since the California Department of Parks and Recreation announced that the Mono Lake Tufa Reserve would be removed from the state’s 70 park closure list and I’m now going to attempt to tell the story of the last six months while describing the wave of emotions and hard work that so many have contributed in answering the call to protect  Mono Lake.
